Youth Links

Youth LinksYouth Links is a part time, 3 days per week, after school Transition Program for Broward County students (16 to 21years old), who want to improve their employability skills and get paid for an internship.

Youth Links operates Monday trough Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Youth Links operates 180 after school days in accordance with Broward County School Calendar (include early release days) and on certain days when your school is closed for teacher workdays and holidays, from 8 am – 5 pm. However, transportation to and from the ARC campus on these days would be arrange by parents.

The Youth Links program is funded primarily by the Children’s Services Council (CSC) of Broward County. Sliding fees apply and are determined based upon verification of total household income. The sliding scale will not apply for youth living in group homes or in foster care.

Social Pragmatics & Citizen Participation

Students will learn about leadership roles and will have opportunities to practice these skills. They will learn to explore their rights and responsibilities as a teenager and eventually as an adult.

Mobility

Students will also have the chance to learn how to ride the city bus along side of our Mobility Trainer one day each week. You will learn to travel, using the city bus, to different places in the community such as your house, your school, and your internship/employment site. The goal of Mobility Training is to help you become as independent as possible in getting to and from school and or work.

Independent Life Training

Students will learn about what it means to belong and be valued at their homes, their schools and in their community and about how to make friends. They will learn to explore the process of becoming independent.

Employment Skills & Career Explore

Students will learn about work and will learn to explore career and employment options. Students will be able to think about and explore their career and job interests, consider what skills and training their might need to learn and think about any help they might need to get and keep a job.

Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

Internship and volunteer opportunities will be on days and at times that are outside of the weekday classroom component. This will include evenings, weekends and/or “out of school” days when schools are closed. Days/hours for these might change based upon the needs of the intern site. Youth Links staff will be with you during all internship, community service and community outreach activities.
