For nearly six years as Arc Broward IT Asset Recovery’s IT Supervisor, Renald has led by example, continued to learn his craft and mentored numerous young adults enrolled in Arc Broward’s Material Handler Program. A native of Haiti, Renald moved to the United States in 2008. He has several years of college experience, mostly in electronic engineering in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and from Broward College and Atlantic Technology College in South Florida. He also has his A+ and Microsoft Refurbishing certifications.

Pedro and Miguel: A One-In-A-Million Pair

In 1968, when Pedro and Miguel were born, their family had a double surprise - that they were twins and boys! Then, several hours later, they received word from the doctor that their twin boys had Down syndrome. Soon later, a nurse at the hospital told the family to "put them away and forget about them because all they would bring us was heartache." But Pedro and Miguel's family would never dream of doing such a thing to the sons that they had longed for and completed their family.

Hector Manon Promoted to Director of Learning Institute

Arc Broward Learning Institute is proud to announce the promotion of Hector Manon as the new Director overseeing the mission-based enterprise of Arc Broward, a non-profit organization that is transforming the community by providing opportunities for people with disabilities and other life challenges to realize their full potential. As Director, he is responsible for the overall operation of the Learning Institute, including the two post educational programs, Entry-Level Culinary Arts Certificate and DS PATHS, and educational/training opportunities for agency staff and professionals throughout the community.

Arc Broward Expands to Flagler Arts Village

Arc Broward is expanding to Flagler Arts Village with WorkBar, a space that provides Arc Broward members with a vibrant and innovative space where they can pursue career goals, network with members of the business community, attend classes and seminars and receive help from professionally trained career and financial literacy specialists. The space will also serve as a resource for workplace diversification training for businesses to learn how to leverage the skills of those with disabilities and ensure a smooth transition of Arc Broward members into the workforce.

Certificate Programs Celebrate Graduation January 11

The ceremony begins at 6 p.m. in The Grand Ballroom at the Sunrise Civic Center, 10610 West Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise, FL 33351. The DSPATHS (Direct Support Professional Advancement through Training and Education in Human Services) Certificate Program provides participants with the skills necessary to give support to children and adults with disabilities. There are eight graduates this year.

Melissa Gousse Earns Work Incentive Practitioner Certification

Melissa Gousse, Training and Career Development Manager, at ARC Broward’s Center for Financial Stability (CFS), recently completed the necessary coursework and subsequent case review activities at Cornell University’s K. Lisa Yan and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability and is now credentialed as a Work Incentive Practitioner. This intensive certification process was nearly a year-long endeavor and represents high quality service provision and expertise in work incentives. Work incentives pave the way to work and financial independence for recipients of public benefits. All public benefits programs and pensions provide incentives for recipients with disabilities to return to work.
