Celebrity Chef Michelle Bernstein Returns as Honorary Chair and Judge

ARC Broward, a not-for-profit human services organization dedicated to providing services to children and adults with developmental disabilities, hosts its third annual superb fundraising event—Delish 2014, presented by The Wasie Foundation. The event will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. at Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Nationally renowned celebrity chef, Michelle Bernstein, returns as honorary chair of this year’s event which celebrates the success of the ARC Broward Culinary Institute.

This is the second year that Chef Bernstein will be judging the event’s cooking stations which showcase the culinary creations of ARC Broward’s graduates. This year’s Delish theme, “Fire & Ice,” will feature a faceoff between two of nature’s strongest elements and allow battling chefs to experiment with different techniques to make the perfect hot and cold culinary experiences. All proceeds from the event will support critically-needed services for children and adults with developmental disabilities and those with various other life challenges.

“It is an honor to be part of such a fabulous event for an incredible cause. I truly believe in the ARC Broward Culinary Institute’s mission of using food as a tool to transform lives, and the food that the students are creating is top-notch,” said Chef Michelle Bernstein.

Guests will enjoy an evening of gourmet treats, refreshing cocktails, dancing, live entertainment, a silent auction, amazing Fort Lauderdale Beach views and much more. Attendees will also have the chance to judge competing food stations comprised of culinary delicacies created by ARC Broward Culinary Institute student chefs paired with chefs of Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort. Jen Klaassens, vice president of programs for The Wasie Foundation, and Heather Geronemus, public relations specialist for Ultimate Software are the event co-chairs.

In addition to judging the culinary stations and selecting an official winning chef team, Chef Bernstein will also present the ARC Broward Culinary Institute Student Chef of the Year, “Michy’s Best” Award to Ashley Guzman.

The ARC Broward Culinary Institute offers a food service training certificate program for individuals with developmental disabilities and those with other life challenges. The ARC Broward Culinary Institute also includes a nonprofit catering service for students to obtain real world on-the-job training. About Chef Michelle Bernstein
Since exploding onto the national spotlight in the mid 1990’s, Chef Michelle Bernstein has remained one of the region’s most well-respected and successful chefs/restaurateurs. A Miami native of Jewish and Latin descent, this passionate master chef has dazzled diners and critics alike with her sublime cuisine and a personality as bright and vibrant as the Florida sun. “My food isn’t heavy handed or unnecessarily complicated,” says Bernstein, a James Beard Award winner (Best Chef South 2008) and author of Cuisine a Latina (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 2008). “You don’t need heavy handed technique and over the top presentations to make a dish work. It’s about amazing ingredients, layered flavors and simplicity. My style of cooking is inspired by my own food memories and it’s the simple, soulful cooking that stays that I remember from my travels. I cook the food I love and I think that love translates to the diners.” These days, Bernstein is busier than ever. Beyond successful restaurants, Michy’s and Crumb on Parchment, and her own family (she and husband/partner David Martinez recently became parents), Bernstein dedicates time to Common Threads an after-school program for underprivileged kids. She regularly appears on an array of national TV shows, from Top Chef to Good Morning America. In addition, she is part of the Lexus Culinary Masters, a brand ambassador for Crisco, and is a member of the Macy’s Culinary Council and the LEAN CUISINE® Culinary Roundtable.
