The ARC Broward Culinary
Institutes MISSION
The ARC Broward Culinary Institute provides a
community that transforms lives by empowering men and women to achieve
self-sufficiency through life skills, job training and employment in the
food service industry.
The ARC Broward Culinary Institute strives to
impact our community through every aspect of our operation. It is, first
and foremost, a job training and placement program, and utilizes a cohesive
effort to teach culinary, professional, and life skills to individuals seeking
self-sufficiency and financial stability. Over the past several years, we
have provided opportunities for people to transform their lives, while also
serving meals to disadvantaged men, women, and children in settings throughout
Broward County. The ARC Broward Culinary Institute was founded on the concept
of providing dignified, nutritious meals to those in need, and indeed, these
meals remain the foundation of our business. We provide nutritious meals
to facilities and child care centers in the Broward County area 365 days
a year. We also offer a competitively-priced catering service for a variety
of occasions, including multi-course dinners, cocktail parties, receptions,
and business lunches and meetings. Our full-service catering company provides
excellent employment opportunities for graduates of the ARC Broward Culinary
Arts Training Program.
CATERING
The ARC Broward Culinary Institute Catering
Department provides competitively-priced service for a variety of occasions,
including multi-course dinners, cocktail parties, receptions, and business
lunches and meetings. The revenue generated through the ARC Broward Culinary
Institute Catering department goes directly to support our job training and
placement program, helping students transform their lives and build new futures.
In addition to providing critical funds for our
program, our catering business also offers students the experience of preparing
elegant, gourmet, and personalized cuisine for our customers.

CONTRACT MEALS
The ARC Broward Culinary Institute was founded
on the concept of providing dignified, nutritious meals to those in need,
and indeed, these contract meals remain the foundation of our business. We
provide nutritious meals to facilities and child care centers in the Broward
County area 365 days a year.
In addition to being a touchstone of our history
and mission, these meal programs serve as a valuable hands-on training
opportunity for our students. Under the supervision of our skilled Chef
Instructors, the ARC Broward Culinary Institute students learn and hone their
new skills as they prepare both the childcare and facility meals. This working
classroom offers our students a chance to gain proficiency and confidence
in the kitchen, while also learning about nutritional guidelines (USDA and
CACFP), safe food practices, and meal planning.
Childcare and institutional meals also provide
the ARC Broward Culinary Institute with an important revenue source. As with
all of our businesses, revenue generated through our contract meals goes
directly back into the program to fund our job training and placement efforts.
Our childcare meals are an easy and less expensive
alternative to in-house meals service. We offer you convenient delivery of
the meals which are family-style service. Meals can be delivered either hot
or cold (for on-site heating), depending on your programs preference.
The ARC Broward Culinary Institute provides a
variety of meals, including breakfast, snack and lunch (vegetarian and vegan
meals are available).

TRAINING
Culinary Arts Training Program
Similar to an apprenticeship approach, our training
activities have an enterprise purpose and allow individuals to learn from
real-life settings, build skills, confidence and self worth. Our model promotes
the belief that both technical and emotional needs are better met because
our training activities are part of something that is valuable and beneficial
to our community. In order to create long-term success, our training program
provides a supportive environment that offers a clear path to self-sufficiency
and the tools needed to get there. It offers a hand up, not a hand out.
ARC Broward Culinary Institute's 16-week
comprehensive training program works to build a strong foundation and support
system for every student who passes through our doors. The program works
with students individually, moving them towards successful employment within
the community and enabling them to create a new life for themselves and their
families. It is an intensive training program combining hands-on food-service
training with classroom instruction, individual case management and job placement
services. This program prepares people for jobs in the restaurant and hospitality
industry and helps them to keep those jobs.

Program
Overview
The ARC Broward Culinary Institute offers a
highly structured environment in which students learn and practice professional
work skills and attitudes that will serve them for a lifetime. We balance
compassion and support with expectations for professional behavior that meet
the demands of the workplace.
There are four main ingredients to the program,
known as ARC Broward Culinary Institute's Recipe for Success:
|
|
 |
Culinary Training at the ARC Broward
Culinary Institute is taught through hands-on, real-world experience in our
commercial kitchen. Students work and train alongside our own staff of chefs,
producing a total of up to 200 meals a day. Click here for a SAMPLE CLASS
SCHEDULE.
In addition, all graduates complete the ServSafe
Food Protection Managers Certification Course, the nationally recognized
course from the National Restaurant Associations Educational Foundation.
Individual Case Management helps students with the complexities of
day-to-day life. Employment Specialists work with students on an individual
basis, adapting to each student's particular needs and advising students
on a variety of issues, including how to organize and manage daily issues
such as transportation, health care, and housing.
Life Skills Training teaches students
how to set goals, work as part of a team, and make positive choices for
themselves. Training focuses on workplace essentials, such as conflict
resolution, stress and anger management and personal presentation. The Employment
Services staff teaches the importance of job-readiness skills such as
punctuality, resume writing, computer literacy, interviewing techniques,
positive work attitude, and teamwork.
Job Placement and Retention Services
means finding the right jobs for students and continuing to work with them
after they've graduated to ensure that they retain their jobs and realize
adequate wage progression. Graduates are assisted in an intense job search
to obtain full-time employment at local restaurants, hotels, caterers and
other hospitality businesses. |
